The Times They Are A-Changin' (Again) Part 2 of 2 - By Dr. John Hogan, CHE CHA CMHS

A few weeks ago, I shared some insights about our changing world in hospitality and hotels in relation to world events.

HTrendsOn a related note, who would have predicted that Bob Dylan who wrote “The Times They Are a-Changin'” would be invited by the 1st black president to perform this song in 2011 at the White House?

Dylan captured the spirit of social and political upheaval that characterized the 1960s and today , 50  years later we in  hospitality industry are facing  significant issues that cannot be easily addressed by individual companies alone.

Hotels serve large numbers of people of all socio-economic groups, races, genders and interests and we are often at the center of the action.  As I mentioned two weeks ago, our changing times means embracing open discussion, preparing contingency plans  and working with to properly handle those changing needs in changing times.

The 3rd Global Congress on Travel Risk Management is offering travel buyers, travel suppliers and public travel supporters an expanded forum to meet and discuss some of those options and plans. A coordinated effort between HospitalityLawyer.com and the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, the program will be held in a major international city , Houston, Texas from September 30 to October 1, 2013. The Global Congress focuses on legal and security solutions for worldwide travel, tourism, and hospitality industries, especially on enabling businesses and governments to meet their Duty of Care to mobile employees.

The agenda offers detailed descriptions of the program, but this is focused at Travel Buyers ( Safety and Security officers, in house counsel, HR executives, Meeting Planners), Travel Suppliers (Buyers plus C Level executives, Travel consultants and compliance officers) and Public Travel Supporters which also includes Embassy, Travel and Tourism Administrators, Trade Officials and Government Counsel and Staff dealing with international visitors.

I professionally have interacted with a number of the professionals who will be participating in this program and compliment the program organizers on addressing major topic areas:

  1. Solving Safety and Security Concerns at Meetings and Events
  2. Indentifying and Using Best Practices for Hotel Security Assessments
  3. Integrating the Entire Corporate Enterprise into Travel Risk Management
There will be detailed review and discussions on what has been learned from recent travel disruptions, domestically and globally. Regardless of where we reside, we work in a global market and travel is increasing. We must take action and plan.   Now.

Change does not happen by itself or easily, yet we know globally we must better prepare.

Look at the agenda and make the decision to participate in this important discussion.  Registration and detailed speaker information can be found at   HospitalityLawyer.com
